The annual Environmental Policy Institute Case Competition for the Master of Art’s in Environmental Policy Program (MAEP) was held recently March 21-22, 2019 in St. John’s, NL. This event is a collaborative venture between Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, the Public Engagement Division, Communication and Public Engagement Branch, and the Planning and Coordination Office, Executive Council.
In the MAEP Program, students learn about the policy development process through readings and weekly assignments (such as the development of briefing notes) that draw on models and instruments used for decision making in government. This real world exercise is intended to be a rewarding experience for students; a critical experiential learning opportunity blended with their academic scholarship. The competition gives MAEP students a chance to present their research and put into practice the skills they have learned in the MAEP program.
The winning group for the 2019 competition was Katherina Wiese, Roshayne Mendis and Claudia Friedetsky. Their presentation was on Transparency and Citizen Participation in the Environmental Assessment Process.
