Dr Michael van Zyll de Jong has been awarded a grant in the amount of $ 26,500 from the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation. The project will develop a river restoration planning and analysis tool to allow for consistent planning and evaluation of the potential effects of proposed projects on salmonid populations and their habitat, particularly for Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). The tool development will be supported by empirical data from a comprehensive synthesis of the case study watersheds which have undergone past restoration efforts.  The project is a joint effort with Dr. Ian Cowx  of the University of Hull International Fisheries Institute in the UK. The tool will be extended and tested on other river systems. This generous grant brings the total project allocation to $91,000 over the next two years. The project will support a Masters student in ecological restoration.
