Annual AGM – The Atlantic Society of Fish and Wildlife Biology

The Atlantic Society of Fish and Wildlife Biology brings together scientists and students to identify and discuss the biological problems in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. This group partnered with the Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute to put together this year’s annual general meeting in Western Shore, Nova Scotia, on October 22-24. This conference provided students and other researchers a platform to discuss and disseminate their research while also networking with partners from both organisations. MAEP student Skylar Skinner was in attendance and presented an overview of his upcoming thesis research project entitled: “Assessing Motivations and Success in River Restoration in Newfoundland and Labrador: A Survey of Practitioners”. Skylar’s thesis will  focus on developing a survey to assess river restoration motivations, the methods used to evaluate the success of projects, and the number of projects that meet the criteria for successful river restoration. The thesis is supervised by Dr. Stephen Decker (Grenfell Campus of Memorial University) and Dr. Michael Van Zyll de Jong (University of New Brunswick) and is funded by the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Federation.
