On October 26-27, 2016, Dr. Robert Scott (Sustainable Resource Management Department, Grenfell Campus), Raymond Cusson (Gros Morne Cooperating Association), and the Holistic Sustainable Development Network (HSDN) partnered in hosting a conference entitled “Biological, Social, Economic and Cultural Implications of Oil and Gas Exploration in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.”

The conference featured presentations by guest speakers from the University of Quebec at Rimouski, Institut des sciences de la mer (ISMER), Gros Morne Cooperating Association, and faculty of Grenfell Campus and the Environmental Policy Institute. This was followed by a student reception featuring posters and presentations by students of the MAEP program (see http://wwhsdc.org/fall-conference-2016/ for more details).

The conference culminated in a meeting in Norris Point at the Bonne Bay Cottage Hospital, where guests, faculty, students and community members came together to discuss opportunities to collaborate in understanding the potential impacts of oil and gas exploration in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
