Employment Opportunity – Environmental Outreach Coordinator NL

Location: Downtown office in St. John’s, NL with travel around the province

Job Description: The Environmental Outreach Coordinator will implement communication and outreach activities for both Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) and the Stewardship Association of Municipalities (SAM) within Newfoundland and Labrador. Duties will involve networking and collaborating with community partners, planning and facilitating community stewardship events and activities, developing promotional and educational materials, developing content for and maintaining SAMs online profile, and planning and implementing a cavity nest box program in collaboration with volunteers. A key component of this position involves networking with high schools to establish DUC’s Wetland Centre of Excellence program in the St. John’s area. Overnight travel outside of office hours is required.

Anticipated Start Date: late September, 2017 (note: this position is contingent on external funding)

End Date: March 31st, 2018 – with possible opportunity for extension

Hours: 35 hours/week – Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm (with occasional evenings and weekends)

Qualifications: Applicants must

Have enthusiasm for the outdoors, wildlife, and habitat conservation

Be energetic and love working with the public, children, and youth

Have experience delivering environmental education and communication programs

 Possess excellent organizational, writing, presentation and interpersonal skills

 Be a team player as well as independently motivated

Have experience with project development, implementation and administration as well as in writing proposals, plans and project reports

 Be competent with graphic design and webpage development

Have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a professional manner

Be knowledgeable of the objectives of DUC and SAM

Hold a minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in a related field such as Environmental Studies or Education

Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license, access to personal vehicle an asset

 Possess valid first aid and CPR training

Other Requirements: Upon hiring, an RNC certificate of conduct and driver’s abstract is also required.
