May 25, 2026My name is Bethel Chukwukere, born in the eastern region of Nigeria, West Africa. I completed a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo state, Nigeria, in 2018. In my undergraduate research, I investigated the compliance with building/environmental planning regulations by housing developers in indigenous communities in Owerri urban.
My background in environmental planning and sustainability, and my interest in climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, and environmental justice motivated me to pursue a master’s degree in environmental policy, at the Environmental Policy Institute, Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Over the past two years I have been investigating the social impact of the Newfoundland and Labrador Living Lab (NL Living Lab) Project. The NL Living Lab is a transdisciplinary and Collaborative project aimed at using beneficial management practices to reduce on-farm greenhouse gas emissions, sequester carbon, and make the farm profitable and sustainable. My research entails investigating how different partners in the project are collaborating to achieve the project’s goal. Collaboration in this project entails partners motivation, interests, and expectations; participation; communication; knowledge transfer; and decision-making. I’m being supervised in this research by Dr. Kelly Vodden and Dr. Emily Doyle, who have provided me with all the supports and encouragements that I needed to succeed in this study.
