May 25, 2026My name is Mbuyi Irene Kanjinga, and I’m proud to be part of the Master of Arts in Environmental Policy (MAEP) program at Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus.
I am originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo and hold a Graduate Diploma in Economics from the University of Kinshasa (1996), a Licentiate Diploma in Applied Economics from the University of Mbuji Mayi (2003), and an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus.
My passion for learning and my commitment to contributing meaningfully to society inspired me to pursue graduate studies in environmental policy. The MAEP program’s transdisciplinary approach provides the knowledge and skills needed to address complex environmental and socio‑economic challenges.
I am currently completing the thesis stream of the program. My research focuses on Balancing Sustainability and Accessibility: Enhancing Tourism Policies for Gros Morne National Park’s Hospitality Sector, with a Case Study of Woody Point. I am particularly interested in how interactive governance can support sustainable development in coastal communities.
Alongside my studies, I am engaged in research assistance and work with a private business, which allows me to apply academic concepts to real‑world contexts. Having lived in Newfoundland and Labrador for several years, I value the resilience and warmth of the communities that shape this province.
My academic interests include sustainability planning, community‑centered approaches to environmental decision‑making, and the integration of research into practical policy solutions. I am passionate about learning from diverse perspectives and contributing to collaborative problem‑solving.
I look forward to connecting with classmates, sharing ideas, and supporting one another as we navigate coursework, research, and life in Corner Brook.
