Rana Parvez is a Master’s student in Environmental Policy at Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus, originally from Bangladesh. His research and professional interests center on community resilience and socio-environmental sustainability in coastal regions. He is currently working on “Through Their Eyes: Exploring Fisher Community Resilience in Piccadilly, Newfoundland and Labrador, from an Emic Perspective” under the supervision of Dr. AKM Shahidullah.

Rana’s research experience is broad, spanning climate-ready fisheries, coastal community resilience, eco-tourism and youth engagement, forest dependency in Bangladesh, environmental risk governance, and the socio-cultural dimensions of community health. His previous work also includes research on policy analysis, flood risk, environmental political thought, and the challenges faced by retired police officers in Bangladesh.

He brings a strong interdisciplinary background, combining academic training in environmental policy with hands-on experience in community-based research, qualitative methods, and knowledge mobilization. Passionate about collaborative and applied research, Rana hopes to support community-led solutions to environmental and social challenges, especially within coastal and Indigenous contexts.

The interdisciplinary MAEP program supports students to work at the intersection of environment, policy, community well-being, and sustainability.
