Dr. Wade Bowers is a member of the environmental science faculty in the Division of Science. Previously, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister, Department of Natural Resources, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Former positions included Interim Director of the Environmental Policy Institute and Associate Vice-Principal (Research) Sir Wilfred Grenfell College; Science Director, Natural Resources Canada; Deputy Coordinator of the Special Program for Developing Countries at the International Union of Forest Research Organizations Secretariat, Vienna, Austria; and Coordinator for CFS national Forest Health and Biodiversity Science and Technology network, Ottawa.

Dr. Bowers began his career as an instructional assistant in the biology unit at Grenfell in 1977. In 1984 he joined the Government of Canada working first as a biologist and later as a research scientist and director. Discovery of novel insect pheromones resulted in a patent and a National Merit Award for scientific excellence. His current research focuses on the study of forest insects and forest policy.
